Hanging Sculpture

This hanging sculpture is a progression from my last triangular sculpture. I have being researching some contemporary sculptors. I found one in particular very interesting (Alexandr Rodchenka) who is a Russian designer and sculptor. He has a series of hanging sculptures,  made with plywood. I took my previous design and I incorporated it into the hanging design. I think the result is pretty good.

Triangular Sculpture

Metal lengths layed out for measuring.

Cutting the lengths with an angle grinder.

Spot welding the pieces together.

All the pieces welded upright onto a base.

I have created the design for this sculpture by closely investigating the shapes in the chainsaw sculpture which I have previously made. I wanted to create a movement in the perspective of the object. I am playing around with the different ways I can manipulate one shape by cutting, tilting and angling it in different directions.

Rusted lock, stitched into canvas.

Beginning the stitching proccess into the canvas.

Sprinkling the steel wool into the canvas.

Steel wool rusting into the canvas to create the colour.

I wanted to experiment with rusting different materials. In this experiment I have stitched steel wool into a cloth canvas. I had to roll the the steel wool by hand, which took a bit of time. I then stitched in my design. When I was finished I chopped up the steel wool into little bits and sprinkled them onto the canvas in the areas that I wanted to rust the most.

Chain Saw Sculpture.

Chain layed out around the original saw frame to
create the structure.

Welding the links together.

Final piece with stand attached.

Sculpture placed in public places.

I have brought two chains from home. They have already been rusted and have a nice effect on them.
I have been thinking of making a sculpture with parts of a saw but then i taught why not make a saw out of a object that would usually not take a definite shape or structure. So I have made the structure/shape of a saw with two chains by welding each link together. I used the blade from the saw and that was welded on after the shape was formed. Then the " Chainsaw" was attached onto a base so it could stand upright.

Paper Lock Metamorphis.

Original image taken from home.

Ideas sketched out

Paper lock after burning.

Before and After.

I have made two paper locks. The first is clean, new and untouched. The second is old ,with hole in it and burn marks. This is representing the transformation from new to old in the same way that rust changes an object. What i like about the object is that locks are made for stoping things but corrosion and rust is able to break through it over time.

Perspective Print

Object sketched onto board.

Sketch cut out of board.

Board inked up.

Picture of image taken from different angle to create a better perspective.

Print on paper.

This is an object that i have brought into college from home. I have sketched it onto a MDF board. Now I am going to use this for printing.
